The Matagorda County Hospital Board of Managers say they are moving in a “different direction” after CEO of Matagorda County Hospital District (MCHD) Steve Smith resigned last week.
The Board of Directors approved Steve Smith’s resignation May 1 and named Chief Financial Officer Bryan Prochnow as interim CEO.
“It has been my privilege and honor to work alongside this outstanding team of healthcare professionals for nearly a decade, and I’m looking forward to new career challenges and the next chapter for my family,” Smith said in a press release.
Smith served as CEO of MCHD for almost 10 years and oversaw the final phase of the hospitals’ new campus and oversaw the construction of the Doman Freeman Phillips Medical Office Building and the MRMC Wellness & Rehabilitation Center additions.
Smith stated in a press release that he recognized it was the right time for both parties to seek a change in leadership.
When the seven board members were asked why they approved the resignation and released Smith, they only issued a statement that said, “We decided to go a different direction.”
A hospital press release said a national search for a new CEO will be led by Quorum Health Resources and the MCHD Board of Managers.
