Matagorda chamber to host forum

Published January 27, 2010

The Matagorda Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a political forum at the Matagorda Elementary School auditorium from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

All four candidates for commissioner pct. 2 and both county clerk candidates will be present at the forum, said Susan Mitchell, Matagorda Area Chamber of Commerce president.

"Those are the two contested races that directly effect the Matagorda voters and we want to give people an opportunity to hear the ideas from all candidates so they can make an informed vote," said Mitchell.

The event will begin with a candidate meet-and-greet with light appetizers before the program.

"We want to give people a chance to come and meet the candidates and talk to them informally before the forum," said Mitchell.

The program will be moderated by Chamber members who will ask pre-submitted questions.

Mitchell said she hopes the public will submit questions on the real issues of the office.

Candidates will be given a certain amount of time to introduce themselves and explain their intentions for the office they are running for.

At the end of the forum the candidates will also be given the opportunity to pose one question to another candidate, said Mitchell.

Mitchell urges the public to pose questions on issues that concern them and submit them to the Chamber or a drop box that has been placed at Stanley's grocery store.

Questions can be submitted by contacting the Matagorda Area Chamber of Commerce at 979-557-6526 or by dropping them at Stanley's before the forum.
