One of Gospel music's best-loved groups, The Hemphills, will appear in concert with Jerry Bennet and Bay City's own Spare Change at Keye Ingram Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27.
The performance will feature several styles of Gospel music including swelling inspirational ballads, Christian country and traditional quartet-style numbers.
Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill toured extensively throughout their career in music and today you can find them featured on the Bill Gaither Homecoming videos.
The Hemphills became famous for their vocal talent and for the quality of the music and lyrics they performed, most of it written by Joel.
They received six Dove Awards for their efforts and Joel was nominated ten times by the Gospel Music Association as songwriter of the year.
During his career he has penned over 350 songs including Gospel hits "He's Still Workin' On Me," Every Need Supplied," "Master of the Wind," Consider the Lilies," "I Claim the Blood" and "Let's Have a Revival."
Jerry Bennett will offer Gospel music with a country flair.
Bennett is a singer, songwriter and evangelist who has registered numerous hit songs on the National Top 80 chart.
Bennet was nominated for song of the year for the Kingsmen hit "My God Forgets."
He recorded a tribute project to the Hemphills, "Diggin," with two singles - "Sing the Glory Down" and "I'll Soon be Gone."
The Hemphills participated in the full project production, which has led to them joining forces on stage.
The event will get started with a crowd pleasing set from local favorites Spare Change quartet.
