Wayne Hyde was introduced as Bay City's new sanitation supervisor at city council's regular meeting Thursday.
Hyde, who will direct the city's trash-collection service that rolls out Oct. 1, comes from Seabrook with 25 years of experience that includes three years as district manager for Waste Management in Angleton through January 2009.
"I can create this the way you would like to have it," Hyde told council.
"Citizens will get the service they not only pay for, but deserve," Hyde said.
He will be in charge of hiring, and current employees, said Mayor Richard Knapik.
The mayor said the city received a lot of resumes for the position.
When the city's new twice-weekly refuse pickup begins, it will feature five new automated trucks and 95-gallon trash containers for an estimated 5,500 households.
The service will employ between 12-15 workers.
City will meet with current waste collector Allied Services to to discuss their exit strategy and issues such picking their dumpsters.
City council will have a public workshop at 6 p.m. next Thursday, July 30, to discuss trash and brush collection and fee schedules.
In other council business, Byron Smith was introduced the new building inspector.
And council amended the 1996 building codes Thursday night and updated all of the codes to reflect the current standards.
New members of Young Active Professionals - a new Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture program - were presented at the meeting. Initially, organizers thought the first meeting of the group would draw about 25 people, yet some 60 young professionals were there to participate.
