UIL releases biennial realignment

The University Interscholastic shuffled some Matagorda County schools in its biennial realignment that was released Monday morning.
Bay City will remain in District 23-4A with El Campo, Lamar Consolidated, Foster and Terry, but welcomes newcomers Brazosport and Angleton.
The county's Class 2A schools, Van Vleck and Tidehaven, were affected by the change.
Van Vleck will now compete in District 14-2A of Division I (Big School) which includes Rice Consolidated (Altair), Hempstead, Hitchcock, Industrial (Vanderbilt) and Edna who moved down from Class 3A.
Tidehaven will compete in the smaller school division (Division II) in District 15-2A with Bloomington, Boling, Danbury, East Bernard, Schulenburg, Brazos (Wallis) and Weimar.
Palacios will now compete in District 29-3A with Needville, Sweeny, Columbia and Wharton.
Gonzales and Cuero will compete in 28-3A and Goliad drops down to 2A.
In 2A basketball, Van Vleck and Tidehaven will reside in 26-2A with Bloomington, Boling, Edna and Industrial.
The volleyball realignment will be released in March or April followed by the fall and spring sports.
The UIL changed the conference cutoff numbers in the five enrollment classifications:
Class 5A - 2,065 and up
Class 4A - 990-2,064
Class 3A - 430-989
Class 2A - 200-429
Class A - 199 and below
