Lady Cats win twice in Wharton tourney

After losing to Class 5A Angleton on Tuesday, the Bay City girls basketball team bounced back to win two games in the Wharton Invitational Thursday in Tiger Gymnasium.
The Lady Cats beat Class 2A Weimar 68-36 and Boling 77-12 in pool games.
Bay City (8-5), played bracket games on Friday and Saturday in the tournament.
In the win over Weimar, Bay City took a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and went up 37-18 at halftime.
The Lady Cats gained a 55-21 advantage after the third quarter before being outscored 15-13 in the final eight minutes of the game.
Andrea Mayberry led the Lady Cats with 20 points. She also had three assists and one steal.
Chazmin Franklin finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and two assists.
Ashley Grice contributed with 10 points. Devan Price scored six and had two rebounds and three steals. Endaca Stuart added six points. She also had three steals and two rebounds. Veronica Williams had five points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist. Sydney Sardinea had four points and one rebound and Dariun Thomas had a field goal.
In the win over Boling, Bay City built a commanding 31-4 lead after the first quarter and went up 57-8 at halftime.
The Lady Cats made it 70-8 after the third quarter and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 6-4 in the final eight minutes of the game.
Mayberry and Price scored 18 points each. Mayberry had four steals and one rebound and Price had three assists and seven steals.
Tia Breaux and Franklin scored eight points each. Breaux also had three assists and Franklin had three rebounds and two steals.
E'Braylon Allen, Stuart and Grice scored six points each. Stuart added six rebounds. Allen and Grice had two rebounds each.
Williams scored four points and had three rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Thomas had a field goal with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Shawndrea Woods hit a free throw.
Bay City hosts Hitchcock Tuesday in a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday and entertains Columbia at 2:30 p.m. next Friday.
