Area basketball teams return to the hardwood

Matagorda County's boys and girls basketball teams returned to the court Tuesday night after taking a break for the Thanksgiving holidays.

The Bay City boys entered their home game against rival Wharton with a 2-2 record, beating Columbia last Tuesday.

The Tigers beat the Blackcats last Monday.

Bay City plays Boling at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leroy Miksch Tournament in Needville.

The Cats will play a second-round game against Goose Creek at 6:30 p.m.

The tournament concludes on Saturday.

Van Vleck (1-1) and Tidehaven had open dates Tuesday.

The Leopards play in the Schulenburg Tournament beginning Friday.

The Tigers play at the Brazos Tournament in Wallis beginning Thursday and take on the host Cougars at 2:45 p.m.

Palacios played Bloomington Tuesday night and will compete in the Bobcats' Tournament beginning Thursday.

On the girls' side, Bay City entered Tuesday's road game against Brazosport with a 5-4 record.

The Lady Cats beat Wharton, Calhoun, and Stafford last Wednesday.

Bay City has an open date Friday, and will host Angleton next Tuesday and play in the Wharton Tournament beginning Dec. 10.

Van Vleck entered its road game against Palacios with a 5-4 record after splitting with Brazosport and Columbia last week.

The Lady Leopards visit Class 2A Ganado Friday and will battle Bloomington on the road Dec. 8.

The Sharkettes play at the Industrial Tournament in Vanderbilt beginning Thursday.

Winless Tidehaven played at Shiner last night and will compete at the Brazos Tournament in Wallis beginning Thursday.
