Lady Leps find stiff competition

AUSTIN - Van Vleck's two female athletes found stiff competition during Friday's Class 2A UIL State Track and Field Championships held at Mike A Meyers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

Junior Allena Brown finished seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a 47.12.

Lauren Garrott of San Antonio Cole won the race with a 44.63. Carly Szabo of Merkel finished second with a 44.65 and Jordan Ward of Alvord finished third to take the bronze medal with a 45.45.

Lindsey McDonald of Winnie-East Chambers was fourth with a 45.51, Jenna Duncan of Comanche was fifth with a 46.37, Kamy Cole of Brock was sixth and Troups Mollie Johnson was disqualified because of a hurdle violaion.

"I was just thinking about getting to the finish line," said Brown. "It was a tough race but I loved the state atmosphere."

Earlier in the evening Krysten Blackmon finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a 1:00.17 to pick up a point.

Marissa Cooksey of Grandview won the race with a 57.16. Shambrail Woods of Trinity finished second with a 57.78, Elena Gubms of Universal City Randolph was third with a 58.26, Chelsea Hutchinson of Rio Vista was fourth with a 58.60, and Latrice Greenhouse of Arp was fifth with a 59.67.

Finishing seventh behind Blackmon was Haley Burton of Shallowater with a 1:00.21 and Lee Eickman of Wichita Falls City View was eighth with a 1:01.28.

Blackmon competed in the long jump during the morning's field events session and finished eighth with a 16-2.

She also had jumps of 15-3.75, 15 feet, 15-3.75, 15-11 and 15-7.

Jasmine Kent of Universal City Randolph won the event with a 18-11.50. Shakita Webb of Anahuac was second with a 18-6, Keraveon Rodgers of Troup was third with a 17-10.50, Andrea Evers of Bangs was fourth with a 17-5.25, Mariah Williams of High Park was fifth with a 17-3, Alexus Daniels of Rice was sixth with a17-2.50 and Marissa Cooksey of Grandview was seventh with a 16-9.50

Brazos High School out of Brazos, won the team championship with 50 points,

Crane was second with 44.5 points and Universal City Randolph was third with 41 points.
