Hitchcock dashes Tigers playoff hopes

Tidehavens District 29-2A playoff hopes faded into the sunset Friday night after dropping a 48-28 decision to Hitchcock at Tiger Taska Stadium.
The Tigers slipped to 0-3 in league play and battles Danbury and Matagorda County rival Van Vleck in their final two games.
Hitchcock improved to 3-0 and clinched a playoff spot as did Industrial who beat Boling 40-7.
The Bulldogs from Wharton County slipped to 2-1 and Danbury shocked Van Vleck 32-26 to pick up its first win.
Hitchcock rode the arm of Morris Tuck who threw for six touchdowns and completed 15 of 19 passes for 267 yards.
The Bulldogs picked up 279 yards on the ground as Devante Provost scored a touchdown and rushed for 170 yards.
Tidehaven quarterback Sean Dannels completed 18 of 27 passes for 205 yards.
Ian Wade caught six for 100 yards and Kole Mitchell snagged five for 56 yards. Colt Clontz caught four passes for 38 yards.
Tidehaven played Hitchcock close during the first half. The score was tied 7-7 after the first quarter.
The Bulldogs went up 22-14 at halftime and outscored the Tigers 20-7 in the third to go up 42-21.
Both teams added touchdowns in the final 12 minutes of the game.
Tidehaven took over at its own 44 to start the game.
The Tigers drove to the Hitchcock 40 but had to punt five plays later.
The Bulldogs took over at their own 4-yard line with 9:46 remaining in the first quarter.
Tidehaven got the ball back after a punt and the Tigers took over at the Bulldog 40-yard line with 8:47 left.
Nine plays later, Dannels connected with Kole Mitchell in the end zone for a touchdown with 5:18 remaining.
Daniel Palomares booted the extra point kick to make it 7-0.
One play after the kickoff Provost ran to the Tidehaven 11.
Darius Dotson scored on the next play with 4:47 remaining.
Zacharie Tanner booted the extra point kick to the score at 7-7.
Tidehaven then had to punt after failing to pick up a first down and the Bulldogs took over at their own 34-yard line with 2:13 left.
The Bulldogs drove to the Tigers 28 and the first quarter ended.
Six plays later, Tuck connected with Bryan Smith in the end zone from the 13-yard line for a touchdown with 8:11 left in the second quarter.
Tanner's kick put the Bulldogs up 14-7.
Hitchcock recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and took over at the Tidehaven 43 yardline.
On a fourth and four from the 38, Hitchcock turned the ball over on downs on the 36 with 7:03 left.
Two plays later Wade caught a pass at the Hitchcock 28.
Rocha scored on the next play with 6:26 remaining and Palomares kick tied the score at 14-14.
Hitchcock responded and drove to the Tidehaven 29.
Two plays later, Tuck connected with Dawayne Barnes in the end zone for a touchdown with 3:56 remaining.
The extra point kick was blocked but Tidehaven was flagged for off sides.
Dotson added the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 22-14.
Marcus Rocha ran to the Tidehaven 44 on the first play after the kickoff.
Then on a fourth and one from the 36, Wade caught a pass at the Bulldogs 11-yard line as the clock ticked to less than two minutes left in the first half.
Wade then dropped a pass inside the one and the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs with 13 seconds left.
Hitchcock took the second half kickoff and drove to he Tidehaven 43-yard line.
Two plays later Tuck connected with Jamarcus McCardell who caught the ball at the five and ran it in for a touchdown with 9:51 remaining.
Tanner's kick put the Bulldogs up 29-14.
Tidehaven responded after the kickoff and drove to the Hitchcock 44.
But Bulldog Stephen Downey picked off a pass by Dannels and Hitchcock took over at its own 20-yard line with 8:36 remaining.
Two plays later, Tuck connected with Provost who caught the ball at the 40 and raced in for a touchdown with 7:37 remaining.
The missed extra point kick left the Tigers with a 35-14 advantage.
Clontz caught a 17-yard pass to the 36. Josh Lara then ran to the 25.
Dannels then connected with Mitchell in the end zone for a touchdown with 6:27 to bring the score to 35-21.
Tidehaven got the ball back after a punt on the Hitchcock 47-yard line with 4:41 remaining.
Wade caught a pass and a 15- yard facemask penalty gave the Tigers a first down at the 26.
Wade then caught a 7-yard pass to the 19.
Then on a fourth down and two, a pass fell incomplete in the end zone and Hitchcock took over a its own 18 with 3:15 remaining.
Three plays later Tuck connected with Scotty Williams in the end zone for a touchdown with 2:07 remaining. Tanners kick made it 42-21.
Josh Galvez took over as quarterback after the ensuing kickoff but Dannels re-entered the game two plays later.
On a fourth and five from the 34, Dannels threw an incomplete pass and Hitchcock took over on downs with 11:01 remaining at the 34.
Eight plays later, Scotty Williams hauled in a 20-yard pass from Tuck in the end zone for a touchdown with 8:47 left for a touchdown.
The missed extra point kick left the Bulldogs with a 48-21 lead.
Tidehaven wouldn't quit yet. Ian wade caught a 27 yard pass and a 15-yard penalty moved the ball to the Hitchcock 9-yard line.
Dannels then connected with Mitchell for a touchdown with 6:27 remaining.
Palomares' kick made it a 48-28 game.
Hitchcock responded and drove inside the Tiger 1-yard line before turning the ball over on downs with under a minute remaining.
Tidehaven was able to get two plays off before the game ended.
