Burglars stole less than $500 and damaged the inside of The Sunshine and Rainbows Preschool at First United Methodist Church of Bay City early Thursday morning, Feb. 25.
A complainant told Bay City police that when she arrived at work, she noticed a door to the building had been broken.
School was cancelled for the day due to the damage.
Less than $500 dollars cash was taken and a thorough inspection of the building revealed doorframes and windows were broken, police said.
This was the second time in two weeks that a United Methodist Church in Bay City was burglarized.
Burglars broke out a window and stole computer equipment at St. Paul's United Methodist Church Friday, Feb. 12.
Shots fired
A Bay City man was arrested around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 after a gunshot tipped off police that a narcotics transaction was going down nearby.
Reports show that an officer patrolling in the 1300 block of Matthew heard what he thought was a gunshot.
The officer found that when an occupant of a nearby vehicle had struggled with a pedestrian, a handgun was produced and a shot was fired, said police.
The officer found crack cocaine while investigating the vehicle.
Mark Adrian Robinson, 47, of Bay City, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and taken to Matagorda County Jail.
Police said no one was hurt when the gun was fired.
The arresting officer is Sgt. Charles Deloach.
