The Tidehaven baseball team took the first game of its 3A bi-district round playoff series, a 6-3 win over Nixon-Smiley on Thursday at Flatonia High School.
PALACIOS – After going winless in district play last season, the Palacios baseball team hung together and got better this season, and now, the Sharks have battled their way into the playoffs.
PALACIOS – It’s a special thing when an actual Pro Football Hall-of-Famer comes to Palacios. But it’s even more special when he’s here to honor a special student-athlete at Palacios High School.
The Bay City baseball team had a rough weekend at the El Campo tournament, losing all three games last weekend. The Blackcats struggled at the plate and were shut out in two of the games.
Both Van Vleck and Palacios had strong seasons and wins in the 3A playoffs, and both the Leopards and Sharks had plenty of players honored on the All-District 28-3A teams.

Last week, the Van Vleck and Palacios boy’s basketball teams played a tough, emotional game that had a playoff feel to it. The Leopards and Sharks played a tough game that both teams hope got them prepared for the 3A playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.
Friday’s game had a feel of a playoff game between two teams that are going in opposite directions. The Palacios boy’s basketball team used the rowdy home crowd to its advantage, while Van Vleck let its emotions get to them in another tight road game.
The Palacios girl’s basketball team could not find its shooting touch in the first round of the 3A playoffs, falling to Schulenburg 42-26 on Monday at Cuero High School.
The Palacios girl’s basketball team had to withstand a late push by Edna, but the Sharkettes held on for a 45-43 win at home on Friday to stay in the top half of the standings in District 28-3A.
With district play getting started in girl’s basketball, the four area teams are hoping to contend for postseason play. But the real goal for three of the four is to find consistency and put together some wins.
