The Palacios girl’s basketball team got a big effort from forward Savannah Williams to pull out a tough road win in District 28-3A play on Tuesday.
Williams scored 30 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Sharkettes to a 58-54 win over Edna.
The Cowgirls took a thin 23-22 lead at halftime, but Palacios scored 19 points to take a 42-39 lead going into the third quarter.
“We got down early and the kids kept their composure and battled back,” Palacios head coach Aaron Wollam said. “It was a close game the whole way and we made some big shots down the stretch by breaking their press and finishing.
“Awful proud of our girls, we showed some heart tonight.”
Brianne Simmons was also big for the Sharkettes, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Sarah Filip and Alysha Jasek each had seven points.
Palacios (17-7, 2-0) will have an important matchup on Tuesday against Industrial on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Cobras are ranked No. 19 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 3A poll.
The Sharkettes then host Boling on Friday at 6 p.m.
