The Tidehaven baseball team had a great weekend, winning all four games at a tournament in Yoakum to continue its hot start to the season.

The Tigers got the tournament started with a 7-3 win over Smithville, with Call Davant pitching five innings, giving up only two unearned runs and striking out four batters. Jacob Galvan and Cade Galvan each had two hits in the game.

On Friday, Tidehaven scored eight runs in the sixth inning in a 12-2 win over Needville. Bryce Galvan gave up only three hits and a walk in his four innings of work on the mound, striking out six Blue Jays. Seven Tigers got hits in the game and Brandon Rosner had four RBIs.

Later that Friday, Gordo Moreno pitched six strong innings to help the Tigers get a 4-2 win over Cuero. Moreno had four strikeouts while giving up only two runs on seven hits to pick up the win. Cade Galvan, Bryce Galvan and Davant each had two hits in the game.

Tidehaven wrapped up the tournament with a 6-3 win over La Vernia by scoring four runs in the seventh inning. Cade Galvan gave up only one earned run in his five innings of work, while Gordo Moreno had two hits and two RBIs. Jacob Galvan, Davant, Bryce Galvan and Chris Rodriguez each had two hits in the game.

The Tigers finished the tournament with a 7-1 record on the season.

“We finished as the only undefeated team in a 10-team tournament with several quality schools,” head coach Eddie Russell said. “I thought our pitching was outstanding during the tournament.  Anytime you play four games at our level, you would think there would be a drop, but there wasn’t.

“As a staff we only walked four batters in those four games. That is an outstanding job.   We hit well in the clutch all week as well. It was a great week for Tiger baseball.”

The Tigers will head to Flatonia for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
