The Palacios girl’s basketball team ended the regular season on a high note as the Sharkettes prepare for the 3A playoffs.
Palacios beat Boling 60-41 to clinch second place in District 28-3A, and will open the playoffs against Schulenburg at 8 p.m. Monday at Cuero High School.
The Sharkettes scored 25 points in the second quarter alone to take a 43-19 halftime lead and control of the game.
Brianne Simmons scored 25 points and had 12 points to lead Palacios, with Sarah Filip scoring 16 and with four boards.
“We came out and got after them from the opening whistle,” head coach Aaron Wollam said. “We shot well, defended the post well and ran the floor well. Again, I’m proud of this group.”
Palacios ends the regular season with a 22-9 record and 7-3 in district play.
Edna 50, Tidehaven 38: The Tigerettes ended the season with a tough loss, but with all seven players returning, there is some hope for next season.
Tidehaven took an early four-point lead in the first half, taking a 23-19 lead at halftime. But Edna rallied with a 16-7 run in the third quarter and holding the Tigerettes to only eight points in the fourth quarter.
“We had four total wins last year and we got 11 this year,” Tidehaven head coach Sam Rodriguez said. “We had no district wins last year, and we got two this year. And not only that, we played close in several games.”
The loss dropped the Tigerettes to 11-19 and 2-8 in district play.
The win forces Edna to a Friday game against Boling for the district’s No. 2 and 3-seeds entering the playoffs.
Industrial 60: Van Vleck 37: The Lady Leopards fell to the state’s No. 18 team to end the regular season.
The Leopards end the season with a 5-17 record and 1-9 in district play.
El Campo 68, Bay City 28: The Ladycats end the season with a loss at El Campo on Tuesday that continues Bay City’s 11-game losing streak in district games.
The loss moved Bay City to 3-19 overall and 0-10 in District 26-4A play.
