J. O. Thompson Jr., 91, of Sweeny, TX passed away December 25, 2018, following a brief illness. He was born March 15, 1927, in Markham, TX, to James Ozza Thompson Sr. and Nell Tobeck Thompson Bradford.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his discharge, he began his career at Phillips 66, retiring after 33 years of service as a machinists’ supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Rose, Mary Hairell, and Frances Mitchell; brothers, Jesse Thompson and Henry A. Bradford; and son-in-law, Brad Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Thompson of Sweeny; sons, David Thompson and wife Lola of Sweeny, and Dickie Thompson and wife Lora of Markham; daughter, Leeda Wood of Mission, TX; grandchildren, Heath Thompson and Liz Flash, Cody Thompson and wife Tonya, Kasey McGee, Nikki Thompson, Lauren Thompson, Catherine Wood, Jason Wood and wife Heather, Bradford Wood and wife Dora; and by 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, TX.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX.
