Proposed tax to help fund reservoirs

Posted: Wednesday, October 10, 2012 4:00 am

Although many were happy to hear the news that the Lower Colorado River Authority had announced options to purchase three pieces of property for possible off-channel reservoirs that would hold any extra run-of-river water for ag and industrial use in the lower river basin, Bay City Chamber president Mitch Thames says it’s just a down payment and now is the time for basin communities to step up and commit to helping provide the funding.

Thames used the public comments portion of the commissioners court meeting to introduce a plan to provide that funding, a plan that he said has support from other Chambers of Commerce along the basin.
