Committee backs idea of city manager

After listing the various pros and cons of a strong mayor-council form versus a city manager-council government, the Bay City Charter Review Committee voted unanimously to recommend the city council approve putting the manager form of government on the upcoming May municipal city election ballot.

After a lengthy debate, those committee members presented voted unanimously to make the manager recommendations. Members Mena Collins and Mayor Pro-tem Patty McKelvy contributed to the discussion but were not present at the vote due to prior obligations. Those voting included four members of the Bay City City Council, Julie Estlinbaum, Carolyn Thames, Clarence Fenner and Bill Cornman.
