USDA Rural Development to hold office days in Palacios

The USDA Rural Development Angleton Area Office, which provides service to Matagorda County, will be holding an office day on Sept. 9 and on Sept. 23 in Palacios.

Tropical Storm Erika formed in the Central Atlantic Ocean Monday night. Erika is the fifth named storm since hurricane season officially began on June 1, putting the count one above the average of four named storms by Aug. 24.

Shipley's has made life delicious for 50 years

For 50 years the Mullen family has been making life delicious in Bay City. The jelly and fun-filled history of Shipley Do-nuts in Bay City began on Aug. 26, 1965 when James and Rosemary Mullen set up shop at 3017 7th Street, where Lube Pit Stop stands today at the corner of State Highway 35 and Nichols Ave.

Phase 2 of street rehab project to begin soon

The bid for Phase 2b of the city street rehabilitation project will be awarded to James Construction. During the city council meeting on Aug. 13, Director of Public Works Barry Calhoun recommended removing some of the proposed streets from the list of projects that will begin in about 30 days to keep the cost under $3 million.
