Rose Pena recently spent a little time visiting Matagorda Regional Medical Center by necessity. It’s never anyone’s favorite trip to make when they have to seek treatment, but when the folks taking care of you remind you that they’re human as well and seek to develop a relationship, the visit is a little easier to make.
Members of the Boys and Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County attended the 2015 Texas State Summit in Austin on March 1 to meet with local legislators and discuss the importance of expanding the Texas AIM program.
The Society of St. Vincent De Paul has received a $2,500 donation from Matagorda County farmers Pat and Cheryl Hickl and America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. The donation will help the organization purchase gift cards that can be used to purchase food and non-food items such as toilet paper, soap and toothpaste. The donation will also help cover an individual’s electrical bill for a month.
According to the Texas School Survey, marijuana use among secondary students is steadily increasing. Lifetime use rates went from 24.6 percent in 2008 to 26.2 percent in 2012 and despite recent legalization movements in other states; marijuana remains a threat to public health and safety.

The Bay City Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to come out for a St. Patrick’s Day dance from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the USO – Bay City Service Center.
