Nature Club B-Day

The Bay City Nature Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8 at the Bay City Nature Center meeting room. They will be celebrating their 31st birthday as a club. They invite you to join them and enjoy their special speakers, Birding Ecuador by Cecilia Riley and Mike Gray.

Lenten Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at noon Wednesday, March 9. Lunch will be served after the service.

Cub Scout Fundraiser

There will be cake auction fundraiser for Cub Scouts 4545 at 6:30 p.m. March 10 at the KC Hall by the fairgrounds.

Lone Star Legal Aid

Lone Star Legal Aid will offer free legal help from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at the Bay City Public Library, 1100 7th St. Applications are available. For more information, call Lone Star Legal Aid at 512-917-3963.

March 12

6th Annual Matagorda Seafood Fest

The gates will open at 10 a.m. March 12 for the Matagorda Seafood Festival. The festival will be a day full of fun, food and live entertainment. They will have a horseshoe contest and washer contest at 11 a.m. with monetary prizes and a $25 entrance fee; corn hole at 11:30 a.m. with a sign up fee of $50 per team and monetary prices. Live music, raffle, and live auction will be at the event.

St. Patrick’s Dinner & Dance

The Sargent Area Lion’s Club will host its 2nd annual St. Patrick’s Dinner & Dance March 12; dinner at 6p.m. with the dance to follow. The event will be at the VFW on HW 457, Sargent. Tickets will be $10 from a Lion’s Club member or sold at the door. Silent auction, pot of gold treasure hunt, and fun for all. For more information, call Jackie Arnold at 806-236-9810.

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry

The Knights of Columbus will host a Lenten fish fry, auction, and raffle Sunday, March 13 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Parish Hall in Blessing. Food will be served from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at $10 a plate. The auction and raffle will be throughout the day. Raffle tickets are available from any Knights of Columbus member. Proceeds will benefit Knights of Columbus scholarships and charities.

Church Anniversary and Homecoming

St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Ruben Newell, Pastor will have their 55th Church Anniversary and Homecoming at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13. The guest speaker will be Rev. A. H. For The Love of Animals (FTLOA) meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Bay City Service Center. New members are welcome.

Matagorda Republican Party

The Matagorda Republican Party will meet at 7 p.m. in the Service Center located at 2105 Avenue M in Bay City. The meeting is held in the North meeting room, which is to your left as you enter the front door. Join us as we put more Republicans in Matagorda County elected offices.

Bake Sale

A bake sale fundraiser will be held for cancer patient Sharon Faris at Bay City Market Days on the square on March 19.

Girl Power Conference

There will be a Girl Power Conference, for girls ages 6-17, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 19 at the Bay City Service Center. A $5 registration and entry fee will be required. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with lunch provided. Guest speaker will be Raqisha Smith. The event will include a photo booth, praise dancing, power sessions, puppet shows, a real shopping experience and money management.

6th Annual Great Steak Cook-off

The Boys & Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County will hold its 6th annual Great Steak Cook-off fundraiser Saturday, March 19 at the Bay City Civic Center. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets must be purchased in advance. For tickets or information call Bebee Manrique at 979-244-8865 or Janet Peden at 979-245-4001. The club is holding a raffle for a 2016 Dodge Ram 4WD truck and the winning ticket will be drawn at the cook-off. Raffle tickets are $100 each with only 500 tickets to be sold. Raffle tickets are available at the Boys & Girls Club or from any board member.

BBQ Benefit

A BBQ benefit will be held for Juan “Johnny” Cortez Jr. for funeral expenses. The benefit will be held at The Station in Bay City from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 19. Each BBQ plate will be $10. Donations are welcomed.

MC Democratic Party Convention

A Blood Drive is scheduled for March 25 from 1 - 4:30 p.m. in the Bay City Police Department parking lot.

Egg Hunt in the Park

The Egg Hunt in Le Tulle Park will be from noon – 3 p.m. Friday, March 25. All are invited to enjoy an afternoon of egg hunting, photo opportunities, prizes and the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny. Children up to 10 years old will be able to take part in the event. This year’s egg scramble schedule will be: ongoing throughout the event for special needs children and for 3 year olds and younger, 12:30 p.m. for 4 year olds, 1 p.m. for 5 years olds, 1:30 p.m. for 6 year olds, 2 p.m. for 7 - 8 year olds, 2:30 p.m. for 9 & 10 year olds. All egg hunts and event activities will be free and open to the public and refreshments will be sold.

Andrew Vasek Memorial Scholarship Cook-Off

The 2nd annual Andrew Vasek Memorial Scholarship BBQ Cook-off will be April 8-9 at the Matagorda Fireman’s Hall. Friday night will be fajitas and margaritas at 7 p.m. and Saturday morning will be Bloody Marys at 11 a.m. The fee will be $25 per entry per category per team with limit of 3 entries. A silent auction, raffle, and washer tournament will also take place. Come have a good time, eat some good food, and enjoy the music of The Red Bulls. 7th Annual Paddlers’ Rally on the River

Blessing American Legion Cook-Off

The Blessing American Legion Auxiliary will hold its annual BBQ Cook-Off and Fundraiser on April 9 at the American Legion Park. The cook-off will be brisket, chili, ribs and beans. Entry fee is $25 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry. Registration will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in each category. A first place Showmanship trophy will also be awarded. The event will also feature a raffle, “happy wagon” raffle, 50/50 raffle and auction. Debutante Ball

The Bay City Ebony Club will host their 6th annual Debutante Ball at 8p.m. April 9 at the Bay City Civic Center. They will present young ladies that will be following in the footsteps of their mothers that were participants in the first Debutante Ball in 1986, the first Little Miss Image and the first Mr. Gulf Coast Pageant. Bark in the Park

For the Love of Animals will hold their annual Bark in the Park Saturday, May 14 in LeTulle Park. Dr. Davant’s rabies clinic sponsored by the Bay City Feed Store will run from 8 - 11 a.m. The first dog is free; there will be a small charge for each additional dog. Toenail clipping will also be offered for $10. There will be pet pictures, a doggie talent show, cakewalk, Frisbee/ball toss, bone guess, paw prints and much more. Contests will include Best Dog Kisses, Owner and Pet Look Alike and Longest Tail. There is a $10 donation per owner/dog team.
