VFW Post 2438 Bar-B-Q Cookoff

VFW Post 2438 will host a barbecue cook off Sept. 16-17 at the Post on Hwy. 60 North in Bay City. Jackpot fajitas will be Friday with a $20 entry. Saturday will feature brisket, ribs, chicken and beans with a $100 entry for all. There will be first, second and third place plaques, showmanship and overall trophies. Quickbooks 2016 Hands-On Workshop by the SBDC

There will be a Quickbooks 2016 “Hands On” Workshop, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Business Dev. Center (1900 5th Street). IMPACT Street Warriors 6th Street Rally

ISW (IMPACT Street Warriors) will host its 6th Street rally at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3317 Whitson Street. IMPACT Street Warriors mission is to be on the front line serving as Christ’s warriors; glorifying God by engaging the faith community acting as the body of Christ. Just as God is no respecter of persons, we to be demonstrating Christ’s love by caring for the homeless, brokenhearted and the poor.  Providing every individual the opportunity to receive Christ as his or her personal Savior. Fundraiser for John and Cindy Hodges

First Presbyterian Church will hold a fundraiser lunch for John and Cindy Hodges from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Pick up your lunches at First Presbyterian Church, 2216 Ave. H, on your way to and from Market Days. Plates are $10 and include a pulled pork sandwich, two sides and dessert. You also can pick up a pie or cake for a $10 donation.

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church celebrates 150 years

The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane will celebrate 150 years of worship (1866-2016) in their annual Homecoming services on Sunday, Sept.18 beginning with pastor Michael A. Riddick presiding over the 10 a.m. morning worship, accompanied by music minister Jerald Sidney and the Voices of Shiloh Choir. The guest speaker for the 3 p.m. Homecoming service will be Dr. Reginald DeVaughn, pastor of Silverlake Church in Pearland, and a descendent of charter members of Shiloh from the Sidney and Spiller families. Car Seat Safety Check

TxDOT and the Texas Department of State Health Services will have free seat installation checks from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19at the Bay City Civic Center at 2017th Street. No ticket violations will be issued, this is strictly a community awareness and education event. It is necessary to have your child and vehicle present. Box Supper

The 8th annual Palacios Community Medical Center Box Supper will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Palacios Recreation Center. Admission is free. 22nd Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Help dispose of hazardous household waste on Saturday, October 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds in Bay City. Items such as used motor oil, antifreeze and other auto-related chemicals will be disposed of safely as well as paints, pool chemicals household cleaners, old appliances and more. Palacios National Night Out

The Palacios Police Department will host a National Night Out Crime Prevention Block Part from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Palacios City Park on Sixth Street and Main. Local law enforcement will conduct fingerprinting for children, have information on child endangerment, child awareness and gun safety and gunlocks will be handed out. There will be games for children with prizes, food, music and classic cars.

St. Peter’s Catholic Church BBQ Turkey and Dressing Dinner

St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing will hold their annual Barbecue Turkey with Dressing Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 30. Serving will start at 11 a.m. at the parish hall with dine-in or drive-thru available. Plates are $10 each. The menu includes barbecue turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, dessert and tea/coffee. The live auction will start at noon. There also will be a raffle and country store. The Palacios Police Department will bring back the 50s with a Sock Hop from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Nov. 11 at the K of C Hall on Main Street in Palacios. Donations will be accepted at the door to help purchase a Thanksgiving feast for the elderly and some local families in Palacios.

The inaugural Matagorda County Veterans Appreciation parade will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 in Bay City. The parade committee is looking for volunteers and donation to help with trailers and vehicles.
