The Tidehaven softball team had to hold off a late rally by Edna in a 9-8 win on Thursday that puts the Tigerettes in the playoff hunt in District 28-3A.
Anisa Rodriguez hit a two-RBI double in the third inning to cap a five-run inning for Tidehaven and a 5-1 lead. Tidehaven added another run on a sacrifice fly by Destiny Morales to increase the lead to 6-1.
Jolie Philyaw got an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead, but Edna scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-5.
Marie Galvan hit a sacrifice fly and Kamille Brown singled home a run to bump the Tigerettes’ lead back to four in the sixth. But Edna rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Jami Johnson relieved starting pitcher Jennifer Sepulvada and got the final two outs to seal the win and pick up the save.
Sepulvada allowed seven runs on seven hits with 10 walks, but struck out four and picked up the win.
Tidehaven (12-13, 3-2) will head to Vanderbilt to face Industrial on Friday at 7 p.m.
Industrial 8, Van Vleck 0: The Lady Leopards were held to only one hit in a shutout loss on Thursday to the Lady Cobras, who are now ranked No. 23 in the latest 3A poll by the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association.
Industrial scored a run in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings before putting up four runs in the seventh.
Faith Heidrich suffered the complete-game loss for Van Vleck, giving up eight runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. She gave up home runs in the fourth and seven innings.
Caleigh Snow had the lone hit for the Lady Leps in the sixth inning.
Van Vleck (8-10, 2-3) will host Boling on Friday at 7 p.m.
