Matagorda County Emergency Operation's Press Release

 

The Matagorda County Emergency Operation Center continues to monitor both the weather forecast and the river conditions.

We have reports of water entering into homes and apartments, please use caution and check on your friends and neighbors.

Matagorda County Judge Nate McDonald has asked that the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas be opened for day shelter in case you have been displaced from your location.

This location will only be used as a day shelter, but please consider the dangers in getting to the facility.

We are stressing, if you don’t have to leave your present location please don’t get on the roads.

If your present location is safe please don’t venture out.

Roads are under water in most of the County.

At the present time the hardest hit areas are south and west.

There are dangerous conditions and driving should be avoided.

Please monitor the weather service and the Emergency Operations Center Facebook page, and the LEPC Facebook page.  Stay tune to the local radio stations FM 92.5 and FM 102.5 as well as www.baycityradio.com.

County Judge Nate McDonald with City and County officials are working to mark or close the worst areas, there are many areas to avoid in the County.

The County Commissioners are out surveying the damage, please obey their request and let them and their crews work.

When flash flooding occurs avoid unnecessary travel, if you must travel don’t drive into flooded roadways. Remember turn around don’t drown 

Please be aware there have been flooding conditions in Wharton and Fort Bend County.

If you must travel this week please plan ahead, there are many areas that have experienced flooding. Check www.drivetexas.org for road conditions.
