The Palacios Pirate Festival Friday and Saturday. 2 Days of Pirate Fun & Games for Adults... and Kids! The Palacios Pirate Festival is a unique annual celebration for all in the region to enjoy. We raise funds to support children & families in our community. The mission of the Pirate Festival is to bring the community together to celebrate our diversity, promoting tourism and building each year on the success of prior years as we support local non-profit organizations.


October 6

Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival Parade will be Saturday at 10 a.m.

Sargent Chamber of Commerce Octoberfish will be Saturday. This year will be Surf and Beach only. There will be no Boat and Bay. 1st & 2nd Prizes will be awarded for: Redfish, Spec Trout, Croaker & Whiting. The Annual Octoberfish Tournament is a general fund raiser and contributes toward the Sargent Scholarship Fund awarded to local Seniors attending Van Vleck ISD. Sign in is at the Blue Gecko on Friday, Oct. 5 from 6  – 9 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 6, 6 a.m. – 8 a.m. Fishing is from 12:01 a.m. – 4 p.m. Entry fees are: Adults at $45 with children 10 and under: $25.


October 8

Author Katherine Center will review her book "How to Walk Away" a New York Times Bestseller at the Bay City Book Review Club on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Hall. All are welcome.


October 9

Bay City Volunteer Fire Department Open House will be Tuesday at p.m. Come out for hotdogs and drinks, while you watch a live kitchen fire and car fire! You can learn to use a five extinguisher and put out a fire yourself.


October 11

Legislative Reception: Wharton County Junior College will recognize elected legislative officials for their support of higher education at a special reception. Scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at WCJC’s Richmond Campus, 5333 FM 1640 in Richmond, the event will include refreshments, a social time and brief remarks from college officials and those being recognized. The event is open to the public but those planning on attending need to RSVP by no later than Thursday, Oct. 4. RSVP/more info: Cheryl Machicek – (979) 532-6322. A second event is planned later this fall at WCJC’s Bay City Campus.


October 11 & 13

The Bay City High School award-winning theatre department, the Dungeoneers, present their first show of the year: “Water by the Spoonful.” Thursday, Oct 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct 13 at 2:30 & 7:30 p.m. Tickets $5 at the door at BCHS. Limited Seating. This story centers on a family and how addiction has torn them apart. It is also about addicts and their recovery. Mature subject matter. The Dungeoneers present this play in partnership with Bay City Recovery. Please join us and consider making a donation to Bay City Recovery any night of the show as we encourage hope, ministry and recovery.

BCJH Building Tours: Friday, Oct. 12, 4 – 5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 – 11 a.m.; Saturday, Oct. 27, 10 – 11 a.m.  The Bay City Junior High building, former home of Bay City High School, will be torn down next summer. In response to numerous requests from BCHS graduates who want to see their old school before it's gone, BCISD is offering tours. Matagorda Heritage Day will be Saturday, Oct 13 in Matagorda. Parade will begin at 10 a.m., events all day, including Fajita cook off, vendors, children's activities, live music and more!

Patchwork Community Bible Study continues with Nancy DeMoss Revive Our Hearts Seminar topic, Foundations: Truth or Consequences. The 2018 fall segment of the Community Bible Study will meet one time on Saturday, Oct 13 from 9 – 11 a.m. in the Christian Life Center (200 Welch St. Palacios).

The Gathering of The Ekklesia at the Bay City Civic Center is a free to the public event which will be held Saturday, Oct 13 at 10 a.m. Free Mental Health Evaluations. Vendors are welcome. Sons of the American Legion Post #649 in Blessing will hold their annual Scholarship Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct 13 at the Blessing American Legion Park.  The event will include a BBQ Cook-off with entries of Brisket, Pork Ribs, Gumbo, Chili, Beans and Dutch-Oven Dessert.  $25 for 1st entry; $10 for each additional entry.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each division and 1st place showmanship will be awarded.  There will also be a raffle, 50-50 drawing, and a live auction.  For more information contact Scott at 979-244-6428.

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3000 Ninth St., Bay City (979-245-3778) will host our annual Blessing of the Pets and Animals at the pavilion (the corner of 9th & Nichols) on Saturday, Oct 13 at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to bring your pets and animals (leashed or caged, please) and join us for a blessing prayer and song led by Pastor Pete Lopez. The Annual Celanese Retirees Club Fish Fry, hosted by Jim Gann, will be Tuesday, Oct 23 at the BayCel Club House beginning at 6:00 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish or a desert.

“Nightmare on Broadway” performance is Wednesday, Oct 25 – Sunday, Oct 28 at the Bay City Country Club (1131 State Highway 35 South). Come join us for an evening of music from your favorite villains of Broadway! Wednesday – Friday’s performances will be Dinner Theater and will be at 6 p.m. the cost will be $45. Saturday – Sunday’s performances will be matinee performances at 2:30 p.m. and there will be no meal included; the cost for matinee will be $20.

Pedal Palacios Bike Ride The Annual Pedal Palacios Bike Ride will be in the morning on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Palacios Monstrous 5K Run Bash The Monstrous 5K Run – Bash by the Sea will be from 5 – 9 p.m. in Palacios. 

Sheffield Strong: Hebrews 6:17 Saturday, Oct 27 at the Sweeny Community Center from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Join us for raffles, shirts, bake sale, BBQ plates $10, live & silent auction. Come out and support Kyleigh Renee. Kvleigh was diagnosed with progressive sinus disease. She will under go immunotherapy shots as a plan of treatment. St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing will hold their annual Barbecue Turkey with Dressing Dinner on Sunday, Oct 28. Serving will start at 11 a.m. at the parish center with dine-in or drive-thru available. Plates are $10 each. The menu includes barbeque turkey, homemade dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, dessert, and tea/coffee. The live auction will start at 12 noon, there will also be a raffle and country store. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.


November 2

The Wharton County Junior College Foundation will host its 6th Annual Golf Classic this fall for the benefit of student scholarships. Scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2 the tournament will kick off at 8 a.m., with a 7 a.m. registration. Lunch will be provided. Entry fee for the tournament is $300 per four-person team, or $75 per individual, which includes a golf cart, green fees and lunch. The entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 19. Third Annual Veteran’s Day Appreciation Parade will be Saturday, Nov 10 at 10 a.m., meet at the Service Center at 9 a.m. All vets are invited, a S.O.S. meal will be provided after the parade (rain or shine). “Disney’s The Lion King Jr.” performance is Thursday, June 20 – Sunday, June 23 and Thursday, June 27 – Sunday, June 30 at the Bay City High School Theater (400 Seventh Street). The performances for Thursday, June 20 – Saturday, June 22 and Thursday, June 27 – Saturday, June 29 will be at 7 p.m. and the performances for Sunday, June 23 and Sunday, June 30 will be matinee performances and will be at 2 p.m. The tickets for all performances will be $10.
