The Palacios Pirate Festival Friday and Saturday. 2 Days of Pirate Fun & Games for Adults... and Kids! The Palacios Pirate Festival is a unique annual celebration for all in the region to enjoy. We raise funds to support children & families in our community. The mission of the Pirate Festival is to bring the community together to celebrate our diversity, promoting tourism and building each year on the success of prior years as we support local non-profit organizations.

Sargent Chamber of Commerce Octoberfish will be Saturday. This year will be Surf and Beach only. There will be no Boat and Bay. 1st & 2nd Prizes will be awarded for: Redfish, Spec Trout, Croaker & Whiting. The Annual Octoberfish Tournament is a general fund raiser and contributes toward the Sargent Scholarship Fund awarded to local Seniors attending Van Vleck ISD. Sign in is at the Blue Gecko on Friday, Oct. 5 from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 6, 6 a.m. – 8 a.m. Fishing is from 12:01 a.m. – 4 p.m. Entry fees are: Adults at $45 with children 10 and under: $25.
Author Katherine Center will review her book "How to Walk Away" a New York Times Bestseller at the Bay City Book Review Club on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Hall. All are welcome.
Bay City Volunteer Fire Department Open House will be Tuesday at p.m. Come out for hotdogs and drinks, while you watch a live kitchen fire and car fire! You can learn to use a five extinguisher and put out a fire yourself.
Legislative Reception: Wharton County Junior College will recognize elected legislative officials for their support of higher education at a special reception. Scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at WCJC’s Richmond Campus, 5333 FM 1640 in Richmond, the event will include refreshments, a social time and brief remarks from college officials and those being recognized. The Bay City High School award-winning theatre department, the Dungeoneers, present their first show of the year: “Water by the Spoonful.” Thursday, Oct 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct 13 at 2:30 & 7:30 p.m. Tickets $5 at the door at BCHS. Limited Seating. This story centers on a family and how addiction has torn them apart. It is also about addicts and their recovery. Mature subject matter. The Dungeoneers present this play in partnership with Bay City Recovery. Sons of the American Legion Post #649 in Blessing will hold their annual Scholarship Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct 13 at the Blessing American Legion Park. The event will include a BBQ Cook-off with entries of Brisket, Pork Ribs, Gumbo, Chili, Beans and Dutch-Oven Dessert. $25 for 1st entry; $10 for each additional entry. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each division and 1st place showmanship will be awarded. St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing will hold their annual Barbecue Turkey with Dressing Dinner on Sunday, Oct 28. Serving will start at 11 a.m. at the parish center with dine-in or drive-thru available. Plates are $10 each. The menu includes barbeque turkey, homemade dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, dessert, and tea/coffee. The live auction will start at 12 noon, there will also be a raffle and country store. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
The Wharton County Junior College Foundation will host its 6th Annual Golf Classic this fall for the benefit of student scholarships. Scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2 the tournament will kick off at 8 a.m., with a 7 a.m. registration. Lunch will be provided. Entry fee for the tournament is $300 per four-person team, or $75 per individual, which includes a golf cart, green fees and lunch. The entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 19.
