Bay City, Palacios, Van Vleck fall from volleyball playoffs
The effort was there but all three Matagorda County volleyball squads that made the post-season playoffs are now out of the running for that elusive state title.
Bay City lasted to the area round but fell to Livingston Thursday, Nov. 1 at Clear Lake High School. Livingston will now advance to the regional quarterfinals.
Livingston swept Bay City in three games 25-11, 25-20 and 25-13.
Bay City claimed the Bi-District Volleyball title with a three-game sweep of Houston Furr. The Lady Blackcats swept past Furr 25-5, 25-12 and 25-11 to move on to the area round of the playoffs.
Van Vleck advanced to the bi-district playoff round but had to face off against state-ranked Anderson-Shiro at Brookshire Royal High School Oct. 30.
The Lady Leopards battled the state-ranked squad hard and dropped the opening set 25-23 and then continued their hard fight in the second set dropping it 25-21. In the third set, the Lady Owls of Anderson-Shiro finished off the three-game sweep with a 25-15 score to claim the bi-district title and eliminate Van Vleck from the playoffs.
Palacios also advance into the playoffs and found themselves up against New Waverly in the bi-district round at Lamar Consolidated High School Oct. 30.
While the Lady Sharks were hoping for a better start to their playoff round, Palacios met up with a New Waverly squad that was able to slip past the Lady Sharks for the win.
Palacios battled tough and dropped the first set 25-23 to New Waverly and followed that up with another loss in the second set by the same score. In the final set, Palacios played like a team not ready to stop playing volleyball this year but New Waverly held on for a 25-22 win to finish off the three-game sweep.
