Palacios outlasts Coldspring in tough three game series
Palacios scored three runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 5-4 series clinching win over Coldspring-Oakhurst to move on in the Class 3A playoffs.
With the opening series tied at 1-game each, Palacios squared off with Coldspring in game three at Stafford High School.
Coldspring jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Palacios before the Sharks started to chip away at the lead. Palacios pushed across runs in the fourth and fifth inning to cut the margin to 4-2 but it was a three-run outburst in the sixth inning that gave the Sharks the win.
Jacob Martinez paced the offensive attack with two hits while Jordin Nemes drove in three runs for the Sharks.
On the mound, Nathan Perez started and went 4.2 innings with one strikeout and gave way to Martinez, who pitched 2.1 innings for the Sharks.
Palacios will now advance to take on Central Heights in the area round.
In game one of the series, Palacios ran out to a 4-0 lead and had to hold off a Coldspring rally to claim a 4-3 win over the Trojans.
Kolby Wilson had two hits and drove in two runs while Keegan Garcia also collected two RBIs in the series-opening win.
Wilson was strong on the mound as he went six innings and struck out 11 in the first-game win.
In game two, Coldspring completed a late-game rally with a walk off run to claim a 5-4 win and force a third game in the series.
Palacios held a 4-2 lead going into the seventh inning but Coldspring rallied for two runs in the seventh and then scored the game-winner in the eighth inning to claim the win.
Nemes led the Sharks with three hits and an RBI on the night.
Sloane Greaves threw five strong innings and struck out seven for the Sharks.
