Reader solicits prayers for local organization

Dear Editor,

Many people are not aware of the group of people that make up the organization known as STPO (South Texas Prison Outreach.) It is combined and supported by both Catholic and Protestant Churches in this region. It was first started many years ago by the men at First Baptist Church of Bay City and has worked with the Sherriff and County Jail for all of those years. On Tuesday, Dec 18 was the Christmas Party for all the inmates, 130 plus. From youth organizations to dedicated home bakers at FBC, all received soda, homemade cookies and a message of hope. The unsung heroes, the jail staff do also benefit, they got the same.

No doctrine is taught; only basic Bible Christianity plus they are able to have a Bible in English or Spanish and a daily devotional. Every Sunday two or four volunteers for both the men and women are there.

Please note a lot of the counties around Matagorda don’t have this gift. More folks are needed and we at STPO solicit your prayers for this to continue to be a light for Christ in our area.

Sincerely,

Carol Wedgeworth
