Post-season honors fall on Bay City
Bay City completed a strong volleyball season that saw the Blackcats place eight players on the District 24-4A All-District squads including junior Renata Dominguez being named Newcomer of the Year and senior Jennifer Dabelgott being name Co-Libero of the Year.
This was a good year and a big step for our BCHS Volleyball program,” said Bay City Head Volleyball Coach Steven Jones. “Bay City volleyball won its first playoff game in more than six years. I am proud to announce that our team was recognized with two out five superlatives awards,1st team, 2nd team, and honorable mention players. More importantly, my entire varsity team made it on the All-District Academic team. I cannot tell you how proud I am of their progress and success.”
From the start of the season, Jones believed that Dominguez and Dabelgott were going to be a force this year.
“She is our middle hitter and she controls the net for us,” Jones said. “That girl blocks everything and is our best hitter too.”
As for the senior Libero, “She did a great job of digging the ball out for us,” Jones said of Dabelgott.
Named to the first-team All-District squad for Bay City included senior middle hitter Diamond Harris and junior setter Hannah Sliva.
Sophomore Haley Eidlebach was named to the second team as a setter.
Honorable mention selections went to sophomores Renna Breazeale, Josie Martin, and Tianna Edison and junior Mercy Breazeale.
As Jones stated, the entire Bay City volleyball squad excelled both on the court and in the classroom as all members of the team were named to the Academic All-District team. Members included Renna Breazeale, Alexis Monroy, Bethany Robbins, Renata Dominguez, Amy Vestal, Mercy Breazeale, Megan Thomas, Haley Eidlebach, Diamond Harris, Hannah Sliva, Tianna Edison, Hannah Cantu, Josie Martin and Jennifer Dabelgott.
