The Tidehaven baseball team rallied and won two games over Blanco on Saturday to advance to the 3A Region IV quarterfinals.

The Tigers won the second game of their area round series 5-4 in eight innings to force a deciding third game, which Tidehaven won 8-6.

Next up for Tidehaven is Hallettsville in the regional quarterfinals, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. and continuing on Saturday at 4 p.m. The games will be played at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.

After losing the first game 9-5 last Thursday, Tidehaven took a 4-2 lead in Game 2. But Blanco rallied for two runs in the seventh to go to extra innings.

In the bottom of the eight, Tidehaven senior Bryce Galvan was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He then stole second base and moved to third on a bunt by Cade Galvan. With the infield drawn in, Chris Rodriguez got a single to drive home Galvan and get the walk-off win.

Gordo Moreno went 7.2 innings for Tidehaven, giving up four runs, but only one was earned. He also allowed eight hits and struck out four. Jacob Galvan came on in relief and got a strikeout with the bases loaded.

The third and deciding game was also a tight one with Tidehaven taking a 4-1 lead in the second inning, only to see Blanco tie it in the fourth. The Tigers got three runs in the sixth inning to pull away for the 8-6 win.

In the bottom of the sixth and trailing 6-5, Call Davant led off the inning by getting hit.  He stole second and scored a double by Gordo Moreno to tie the game. Bryce Galvan was up next with the score tied at 6-6 and hit a two-run home run to put Tidehaven ahead to stay.  Jacob Galvan retired the Panthers in order in the seventh to seal the win.

Moreno led the team with four hits in the game, with Bryce Galvan had four RBIs.

Jacob Galvan once again came on in relief and got the win, going 2.1 innings with no runs on three hits and one strikeout.

The wins put Tidehaven at 28-5 on the season.

Hallettsville comes into the series with a record of 22-3 after beating Jourdanton in two games, 10-2 and 10-0. The Brahmas also beat Palacios in the first round, winning 13-4 and 4-3.

The winner of the series will face either Kingsville Santa Gertrudis Academy or Bishop in the regional semifinals.
