Van Vleck’s De La Rosa plays in summer tourney

Van Vleck sophomore Joshua De La Rosa was named to the Texas team in the Sophomore Sunbelt tournament, a select team of the best sophomore baseball players in the state.

De La Rosa, who was an infielder and pitcher for the Leopards, was also named the District 28-3A newcomer of the year after a strong 2018 campaign.

Over 100 nominations from teams across the state were submitted for the team.

The 22 past Sophomore Sunbelt participants have signed professional baseball contracts. Nearly 100 past participants have gone on to play college baseball.

The Sophomore Sunbelt Classic Tournament was this weekend at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.

Texas players will be spilt into two teams of about 20 players each.

Each team will be playing up to seven games, weather permitting. We will be playing on Friday and Saturday with a seeded game on Sunday.
