Tidehaven dismantles Odem 28-12 for area title
Tidehaven knew it had the offensive firepower to play with the unbeaten Odem Owls.
“We have to see what they give us,” said Tidehaven Head Football Coach David Lucio in preparation for this week’s contest. “Ingram tried to take away our running game and if they try that, then we have to be proficient in the aerial game. In the end, we will have to be able to run the ball on them.”
On Friday night, the Tigers had what that need offensively and defensively to claim a 28-12 area championship title win to advance to the regional semi-finals.
Tidehaven started off its scoring with a pick-6 to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 3:06 left in the first quarter.
The Owls managed to get back into the game when Matt Ramirez scored from five yards out but when the Owls misfired on the PAT, Tidehaven continued to lead 7-6 with 8:34 left in the second quarter.
The Tigers responded right back to Odem’s score with a scoring drive of their own and a short touchdown run to give Tidehaven a 14-6 lead with 5:40 left in the second quarter.
But Tidehaven was not through scoring in the first half as the Tigers added another score on a 26-yard scoring toss to push the lead out to 21-6 at the halftime break.
Odem cut into the lead in the second half on a long touchdown run but after the two-point conversion failed, the Owls trailed Tidehaven 21-12.
The Tigers padded their lead out to 28-12 and cruised to the area title victory.
