Bay City falls to Brazosport 90-79
Early in the third quarter of Bay City’s contest with Brazosport, Bay City’s Ky’Adrian Green scored to tie the game at 58-all. After that, the Exporters took over and cruised to a 90-79 win over the Blackcats to hand Bay City its first loss in district action.
At the end of the third quarter, Brazosport held a slim 61-58 lead over Bay City. But Brazosport came out firing in the fourth quarter and reeled off eight straight points to assume a 69-58 lead over Bay City.
Bay City’s Marcus Edwards slowed the bleeding for the Blackcats by drilling a jumper to cut the lead to 69-60 but the Exporters responded with a long three to push their lead out to 72-60.
Bay City’s Rodney Mitchell converted a pair of free throws to cut the margin down to 72-62 and when Anthony Perry hit another free throw a short time later, Bay City had pulled to within 72-63 in the fourth quarter.
A pair of Brazosport free throws pushed the lead back out to 74-63 before a Perry free throw and a long two from Marcus Edwards cut the lead down to 74-66. After a Brazosport bucket, TJ Roberson converted two free throws to again cut the lead down to 76-68.
Brazosport’s Jamarcus James hit a two pointer to push the Exporters out to a 84-75 lead.
But Brazosport reeled off four straight points to take an 89-79 lead with less than a minute left in the game and held on for the key district win.
With the win, Brazosport moved into sole possession of first place of District 24-4A with a 2-0 record while Bay City fell into second with a 2-1 mark. Columbia and LaMarque sit tied for third with 1-1 records and Sweeny has still not posted a win in district standing at 0-3.
Bay City took on LaMarque last night in a home district contest but the results were not available at press time. The Blackcats will host Columbia Friday night in a vital district contest with game time starting at 7:30 p.m.
