Playing in rainy conditions last Friday, Van Vleck came away with a vital 42-21 victory over Schulenburg moving to 2-1 in District 14-3A play.

Van Vleck was paced by senior De’metri Monroe, who rushed for a game-high 247 yards and four touchdowns in pacing the Leopards attack.

Van Vleck ran out to a 20-7 halftime lead and never really looked back at the Shorthorns. The Leopards finished off the game with 22 points in the fourth quarter to claim the easy district win.

Van Vleck will now host Ganado this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Columbus – 42

Palacios – 6

After playing a tough first quarter of play against Columbus, the Cardinals went on to score 33 unanswered points in the second half to claim a 42-6 win over Palacios last Friday night.

The win moved Columbus to 2-0 in District 13-3A play while Palacios fell to 0-2 in district play.

Palacios held a 6-2 lead over Columbus early in the contest but the Cardinals came right back to retake the lead for good with four minutes to go in the first quarter.

Columbus’ Jessie Upson III intercepted a Palacios pass to set up a scoring drive that was capped off when Tyree Simcik scored from 50 yards out to give the Cardinals a 9-6 lead.

Palacios never could get its offense on track against Columbus as the Sharks managed only eight first downs on the night.

Senior quarterback Chris Tovar hit on six-of-15 passes for 35 yards but suffered two interceptions on the night. Sophomore Gary Haynes led Palacios in rushing with 15 carries for 40 yards with his longest run coming on a 14-yard jaunt.
