Palacios looks to get back in win column
Coming off a rough district opening loss to Rice Consolidated, Palacios is looking to get back on track this week when the Sharks travel to Columbus to take on the Cardinals.
Columbus is 1-0 in district while Palacios is 0-1 in district action coming into this contest.
Against Rice, Palacios struggled to get its offensive going against the Raiders as the Sharks managed only 10 first downs. Senior quarterback Chris Tovar hit on 16-of-32 passes for 120 yards against Rice but that was just about as much as the Sharks could manage in the game.
Rice’s vaunted rushing attack ran through Palacios as junior Warren Scott led Rice with 110 yards on eight carries and one touchdown while seniors Darren Gentry and Tarris Fields each rushed for 63 yards each.
Rice ran out to a 23-0 halftime lead and cruised to the easy win over Palacios.
Now, Palacios must turn its attention to Columbus, who opened its district season with a 32-20 win over Hitchcock.
Columbus is led by quarterback Hayden Leopold, who last year passed for 847 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 623 yards.
Tovar continues to pace the Palacios offensive attack and has passed for 729 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
