Tidehaven turns back Moore 41-16
The way Tidehaven Head Football Coach David Lucio sees it, “it’s always a good game when you can play your junior varsity squad against an 8-2 team in the fourth quarter.”
In other words, Tidehaven had this bi-district playoff game well in hand en route to a 41-16 win over Ingram Tom Moore Friday night in Seguin.
Quarterback Blake Garcia paced the Tigers’ attack by passing for three touchdowns in the win with sophomore Austin Smith coming up big with two touchdown receptions in the playoff win.
“He stepped up for us with two touchdown receptions,” Lucio said.
Junior Alex Hernandez also added a long touchdown reception in the contest.
Tidehaven ran out to a 7-0 lead early in the game and held onto a 20-7 lead at the halftime break. By the time the smoke had cleared on the third quarter, Tidehaven held a 27-9 lead over Moore and cruised to the easy victory.
“We had a lot of penalties in the first half,” Lucio said. “In just seems every year in the first round, we have a lot of penalties. At the same time, we just seemed to overcome them.”
Next up, Tidehaven will take on Odem Friday, Nov. 23 in Port Lavaca.
