Bay City opens swimming season

The Bay City swim team participated in a dual meet with Hightower last week with the girls coming away with the title.

The Bay City girls captured first with a 59-37 score over Hightower. The Bay City boys fell to Hightower 67-65. For the combined meet, Bay City scored a 124-104 win over Hightower.

“Our girls locked up their meet early, building a large lead through the 200 free relay,” said Bay City Head Swim Coach Bob Button. “We had some very good early season swims.

“The boys were able to win six of nine individual events, but our inability to win a relay helped Hightower pile up the points (24-8) there.”

Bay City also participated in the Manvel Sprintathlon last week with 13 schools participating in the event.

Participating schools included Bay Area Christian School, Bay City HS, Brazosport, Brazoswood, Dawson, Duchesne Academy, El Campo, Ft. Bend Christian Academy, Manvel, Shadow Creek, St. Joseph, St. Thomas and Terry.

“This is a great early-season meet that gives us a chance to get times for our kids in every stroke,” Button said. “We had quite a few lifetime best times, which was a nice surprise.

Bay City returns to the pool Saturday when it hosts the Bay City Relay Invitational.
