AARP Meeting

Conservation Reserve Program Sign Up
General sign-up for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) will continue through Aug. 27. CRP is a voluntary program that assists farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers to use their environmentally sensitive land for conservative benefits. Contracts may be for 10 to 15 years in duration. All offers must be in the county office no later than Aug. 27. For more information please call the Matagorda County Farm Service Agency Office at 979-245-1201 ext. 2 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Business Seminar
There will be a one-day seminar on exploring business opportunities from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Wharton Civic Center. Topics covered include business plans, marketing plans, cash management and record keeping. David L. Schroeder, director of the Wharton Economic Development Corp., and Kyle Smith, director of the U of H/Coastal Plains Small Business Development Center will be present to answer questions and meet with attendees. Fall Dance Clinic
All girls in first through sixth grades are invited to participate in the BCHS Aristocats' dance clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 28, at the BCHS gymnasium. A fee of $40 includes T-shirt, instruction, snacks and a goody bag. Girls will participate in the Sept. 3 home football game. Forms can be obtained from Veronica Dibbern or Sandra Anderson at the BCHS campus or in the BCHS office. Registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 27. Late registration may be accepted if space allows.

Community Wide Baby Shower
Society of St. Vincent de Paul, OLG Conference is hosting a community wide baby shower for Matagorda County Gabriel Project from 2 - 4 p.m. Aug. 29 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall. Come join us for games, snacks and a good time.

Bay City Night at Astros Game

BCGSA Meeting
Bay City Girls Softball Association will have a public board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30 to discuss by-law changes.
September 7
Retired Teachers' Association Meeting
The Matagorda County Retired Teachers' Association will meet at noon Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Bay City Service Center. Grilled chicken breast will be the entrée. Mitch Thames of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will speak on county development. For more information, call 245-5109.

VVHS Reunion
The 20th Class Reunion for Van Vleck High School Classes of 90 and 91 will be held on Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2. Friday night is the Homecoming game and Saturday is a noon family event and then an adults only dinner/dancing event.
