Free Thanksgiving Dinner for public

There will be a free Thanksgiving dinner open to the public from 5 p.m. until all the food is gone, Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Blessing Community Center, offered by Blessing First Baptist Church, Pastor Larry Swift.

Jury Cancellation

The District Clerk's office announced a jury cancellation for Judge Craig Estlinbaum, which was set for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.

8th Grade

Dance Meeting

All parents of Bay City Junior High students are encouraged to attend the next eighth-grade dance meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in the BCJH cafeteria. For more information contact Kay Thiemer at 240-4755.

Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society Matagorda County Relay For Life is hosting their Appreciation/Awards Ceremony and kick off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Bay City Service Center. "Imagine a world with more birthdays - come make it happen." Everyone is invited to see what it is all about and sign up a team or be part of one and join the journey towards a future without cancer.

Feather Fridays

Angel Food Ministry

Angel Food Ministry distribution day is set for 8 - 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at MEHOP.

Markham Elementary Fall Festival

Markham Elementary announces its Fall Festival from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. There will be a cakewalk, silent auction, craft tables, a jumping castle and much more. Barbecue sandwiches will be sold at $6 each with chips and a drink.

Hilliard Alumni Association

The Hilliard High Alumni Association Board of Directors will have their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Alumni Building, 2616 Ave C. This months agenda will include plans for Thanksgiving Elderly Gift Baskets, the hanging of the green, the annual Christmas Party and fund raising. Benefit Barbeque

There will be a benefit barbecue and bake sale for Lee Edward Pierce beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Blessing Community Center. Barbecue plates will be sold at $8/plate. Tax deductible donations can be paid to: SAL C/O Lee Edward Pierce at First State Bank.

Prairie Switch

Riders: Toy Run

The Prairie Switch Riders will be hosting a Toy Run benefiting the children of Wharton County. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the VFW Hall, CR 306, El Campo. First Presbyterian Church of

Collegeport Centennial

The First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport celebrates its Centennial on Sunday, Nov. 22. Festivities begin with a meet and greet reception from 9 -10:15 a.m. Church services are at 10:30, with lunch being served at noon at the Mopac House. The church was organized in the chapel of the Gulf Coast University on Nov. 30, 1909, as the First Church of Collegeport-Federated. Parade of Lights

The 19th Annual Parade of Lights will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, in downtown Bay City. Call the Chamber office at 245-8333 for a registration form.

Career Night

College and Career Night will be held from 6  8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Bay City High School cafeteria. All area students are parents are welcome.

December 4

Basic Motorcycle Operator Training

Wharton County Junior College Continuing Education Department will offer Basic Motorcycle Operator Training courses at the Wharton campus on Dec. 4, 5 and 6. The class will include 15-hours of mandatory training which will feature both classroom instruction and development of driving skills.  Helmet and motorcycle will be provided for participants. American History Essay Contest Deadline

The Mary Rolph Marsh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is once again sponsoring the American History Essay Contest. The topic this year is, "Describe how you felt on May 10, 1869, when the golden spike was driven at Promontory Summit, Utah, to celebrate the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad." The contest is open to students in grades 5-8. For more information contact Janet Hickl at 245-6644. The deadline is Dec. 4.

Christopher Columbus Essay Contest Deadline

The Mary Rolph Marsh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is once again sponsoring the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. This years topic is, "Discuss and analyze Christopher Columbus early influences and experiences and how these contributed to successes and failures in his voyages of exploration." The contest is open to High School students in grades 9-12. For more information contact Janet Hickl at 245-6644. The deadline is Dec. 4.

Guys and Dolls

Dance Club

The Guys and Dolls Dance Club will hold their Christmas Dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Bay City Country Club with the Knights of Dixie Band providing music. Snacks will be provided. Nonmembers and guest are $25/couple. Please RSVP at Rick at 245-2289/5230 or Don at 245-5634.

Daughters In

Progress Club

The Daughters In Progress Club will present its annual Christmas activity, A Religious Celebration and a Taste Tea, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Matagorda County Fair Grounds Multipurpose Building. There will be a $10 donation.

December 20

Sargent Area Children's

Christmas Party

Sargent VFW Post 2412 will sponsor a Sargent area Children's Christmas Party at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. All local children are invited to attend for presents, photos with Santa, hot dogs and chips, coloring contest, book corner where they can select a book donated by Sargent Library and Literacy Volunteers of America and crafts.
